We had a private guide for the day which was really nice. We saw both historic Vilnius and the Jewish quarter. We started at Peter and Paul church, which seemed very ordinary from the outside, but the inside was all in white plaster. It was quite beautiful.
We had a rest stop at a coffee shop that sold all kinds of Lithuanian parmesan cheese. I had no idea they made it. It was great!
Next we wandered through the two Jewish ghettos.
We visited the Choral Synagogue--the only one out of hundreds in the country that is still standing.
The story of the Shoah here is as awful here as it was in other places in Europe. We wandered into the market hall for a break. I always love these places.
This woman was selling honey.
When we stepped outside of the market, there was this wonderful mural.
We did more wandering of the Jewish ghetto.
We ended up at Vilnius University. The frescos on the ceilings are amazing.
The photo below shows the office of a department head.
We had another great day.
