Day 7: Last Day in Copenhagen

Today was a great day, but started out a bit disappointing.  We thought the conference was going to take us to see local schools, but there was just a lecture on the schools, so we didn't go.  It turned out to be a very fun day.  Wandering Copenhagen is a joy.  The number of people on bikes always surprises.

Our hotel is in the embassy district.  This is one of the many embassies we walk past every day.

We also found a good department store that was right next to our metro stop to the conference.

We headed out today to see the Rosenborg castle, but it was an hour and half until we could get in, so we just wandered the King's gardens.

Apparently Christian IV was quite a character.  He made lots of reforms for the country and had 25+ kids with various women.  He's called a lover and a fighter.

Since we couldn't get into Rosenborg castle, we went across the street the the National Gallery.  It was really cool seeing Danish artists that I had never heard of before.

We spent lots of time in Modern Art wing.

John Davidsen, Twister 1964

Ursula Reuter Christiansen, Women Forward! 1971

Carl-Henning Pedersen, The Red Castle Reykjavik, 1948

William Scharff, Composition in Red.  Fowls. 1918

Outside the museum was a pool of water.  So different than in the US.

We then went across the bay from our hotel for a tour of the opera house.  It was really stunning.

These chandeliers were pretty amazing.  Although they look very colorful, they are made of of clear crystal that worked like prisms.

This is the Royal Box.

The opera is located directly across from the Amalienborg palace where the queen lives.

Naomi and I both wish we could stay here a bit longer.  It was a great visit.
